NEW CAMPUS OF SOCIAL, POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC SCIENCES IN THE EX PIAVE BARRACK IN PADUA

The Project Proposal consists mainly of two Elements: on the one hand a Static Element, the Existing Buildings, which recovered and renovated Passively accommodate a first series of functions; on the other hand, a Dynamic Element, a New Building, which actively welcomes a second set of functions in a characteristic manner and generates, physically and simply with its Oval shape, an area open to all the functions of the Campus. The new building, through its essential shape and central location, tries to give an impulse to the concept of Campus: The hardest part of the study, meeting, representation functions is located underground (Aula Magna, Study Rooms, Library, Catering , Esercizi Commerciali) on which the Architecture has the greatest impact, with a series of underground constructions dug into the ground: the softer part of the study, meeting, representation functions (Aula Magna, Study Rooms, Library , Catering, Commercial Establishments) on which the Architecture has less impact, with a single construction in a hollow Pavilion that recalls the light structures, placed on the ground, in use in the Park and Garden. Architectural Solution and Landscape Solution have the intent to form an Urban Place, exclusively pedestrian, in which green spaces are of primary importance, in which not only the spaces of the University are extended and in relationship with the outdoor places, but where outdoor places become a destination for the city of Padua. The Restoration of Existing Buildings was conceived rigorously scientific and philologically founded with the aim of having a historically clear reading, intending to base every decision on Analysis and Surveys, on Graphic and Constructive representations, on Physical and Chemical sciences: the idea of intervening in various ways through Repair (Restoring Integrity and Functionality), Revelation (Manifestation of hidden elements / parts), Reproposition (New presentation of a known context), Innovation (Introduction of new Systems and Criteria) seemed immediately appropriate and feasible.
